Watch list

What moves the thesis, sorted by direction.

Tailwind

AI demand outruns supply

CEO C.C. Wei said demand still runs well ahead of supply. Full-year US$ revenue growth was raised again to about 44%, and the Q4 guide implies about 58% year-over-year growth.

Tailwind

Pricing power

Operating margin of 58.7% beat the top of guidance even as 2nm diluted gross margin, helped by high utilization of 3nm and 5nm and price increases.

Watch

2nm and overseas dilution

Gross margin fell 1.3 points to 66.4% on the 2nm ramp and is guided to about 66% in Q4. Overseas fabs cost about 2 points this year and should widen to 3–4 points as more US fabs ramp.

Watch

Capex keeps rising

The 2026 budget stays at $60–64B ($40.6B spent through Q3), and management said 2026–2028 spending will be even more significantly higher than the past three years, with nearly 20 fabs under way.

Risk

Currency

TSMC reports in NT dollars, and the ADR trades in US dollars. Each 1% move in the NT$ shifts gross margin by about 0.4 points.

Risk

Geopolitics and tariffs

Most leading-edge capacity is in Taiwan. Cross-strait tension and US chip tariffs are risks that no amount of earnings growth removes.
